Tip for Tuesday

I don't know about you, but I love burning candles, especially in the winter.   I got this tip from my sister Cheri, who told me that if you put a strip of foil around the top of the jar your candle is in, it will burn more evenly.
I tried it with this one and it really works!  It burned down leaving hardly any wax on the glass.  You have to start it with the first burn or it doesn't work.  Try it out!

Thanks for the tid bit. Candles have gotten so expensive, the good ones anyway. I'm getting out the one that my daughter in law gave me for my birthday in September. It's a fall scent. They are my favorite.

I also read to let it burn so about 1/2" is melted the first time. that's the memory burn - so it helps it burn evenly from then on too

I had never paid attention to whether my candle burned evenly or not. I must go look at my candle to see what you all are talking about. I can't believe that I missed this!

But doesn't the foil rather spoil the look of the melting candle?

You know, I only buy the $4.96 jar candles from Walmart (there are a few scents at Dollar General I like too for just slightly more) and I actually like it when they "tunnel" -- which is very rarely; they burn evenly almost every time -- because when they tunnel, the flame is so small and the candle lasts longer, with the same room-scenting effect. When they won't light and burn anymore, I put the jar onto a candle warmer and extract all the rest of the scent that way.

But more often than not -- actually almost every time -- I trim the wick and they burn with such a huge flame, there's lots of smoke and it's annoying. I wish Cheri could tell me how to make my candle flame smaller, haaahaha. xoxo
